Vasco

Vasco has broken blue jeans on his knee, which he does not like at all.

Protagonistas

November 7 was prodigal in events.
Donald Trump won the election to be president of the United States, and the alleged murderer of Aguiar da Beira surrendered to the authorities. They ended up taking protagonism to each other in the televisions, these two. That same day Leonard Cohen also died, although the news reported that only a couple of days later. I do not like drawing anything from photographs, but I wanted to write and draw ahistory in my sketchbook, that's the reason. I did it before when David Bowie died, but I was nor a fan of the result. I do not know if I will repeat this thing again.

My nephews Madalena and Tomás had their birthday in the same week, five and a year, respectively. They celebrated last Saturday with a dinner at their parents' house, my brothers-in-law. From a set, and before the happy birthday was sung, I made this half dozen drawings. I did more drawings in an hour than in the last twenty days ...

Oficina Inma Serrano & Miguel Herranz

Two of the most talented sketchers in the world, were in Lisbon for a workshop. Inma Serrano and Miguel Herranz showed us drawings made in the same places, with so different results. The common factor among them is the soul and the feeling, the emotion brings to others. After the presentation, we went to the  street, to draw the challenge proposed by Miguel, which was to draw vignettes, with parts of people or buildings, with what should, in our view, be the highlight of the drawing.
The challenge was not easy. But what most excited me was the path taken to achieve the objective. Knowing how to choose what to draw. Knowing what not draw. In my anarchical way, I did half of the exercise in that register, but the result turned out to be, in my view, perhaps achieved. And I really enjoyed. I drew Irene Nemeth, a nice and charming Austrian girl, who lives and works as a web designer in Lagos, in the Algarve. At lunch I sat in front of her, and I draw her again, with a disastrous result...

“Life is a play that does not allow testing. So, sing, cry, dance, laugh and live intensely, before the curtain closes and the piece ends with no applause.”

My grandparents house is exactly like what it was when I was a little boy, and often slept there. It has furniture made by my grandfather, as the table on the left, or the wardrobe in front, made by my uncle João, also a carpenter. The chair is one of four that still exist, and were part of the trousseau of my grandmother, who married in 1930.
