Manchester # day_4_part II
Neste último dia do Simpósio fiz apenas 3 desenhos:
- A biblioteca John Rylands, desenho que foi vendido no leilão silencioso por 50 libras;
- A Loukia, uma Grega a trabalhar em York com quem conversei no Peveril of the Peak, durante a 2ªa sessão da minha actividade a meias com o Vicente;
We had dinner for the third consecutive time in the Indian restaurant. The food was great, and the service of our friend Laura, from Spain, were more than enough reason to want to come back. Every night we had more friends with us, as Silvio said, we were probably"the coolest group". On this last day of the Symposium I did only 3 drawings:
- John Rylands Library, the drawing I did for the silent auction, sold for 50 pounds;
- Loukia, a Greek girl working in York I talked at the Peveril of the Peak, during the 2nd session of my activity with Vicente;
- And Rita Sabler, That I met and had already drawn in Paraty (see here).
Rita is still charming and draw splendidly, I canot even describe. Since the last drawing, I think her hands have grown...

Manchester #day_5
Aparentemente tudo tinha acabado.
Fiz o último desenho no avião.
E as duas pequenas camisolas do Manchester United...
The last day in Manchester.
Like what I did after Paraty, I´ll start with the last drawing, although for different reasons.
I imagine that each one feel differently this Simposium thing, I describe this experience as a dream, but with open eyes, at all times, from the moment we wake up, until we got back to fall in the hotel bed, exhausted but happy. Walking everyday, sketchbook in one hand and wide eyes wide searchig the best experiences in our sketchers life. And to meet people; and to learn new things; and also teaching things to others. The total wonderment.
After the closing party on Saturday, Sunday was the day of decompression and depression.
Apparently it was all over. Perhaps apparently, because things don´t finish like that, it takes time to pass. I think we came back better from this place, not in terms of drawings, but in other things - at least I do.
On Sunday I had to buy two official Manchester United shirts, of tiny sizes. I left in the morning, with my friend Silvio, from Argentina but living in San Franscisco, whom I met in Paraty. I bought the shirts, in a shopping center close to the Cathedral, where they were still some elite resistant urbansketchers. We drank mint tea, said goodbye just before lunch, and we gave a hug. I went trough the festival Comic Con before I join again with Pedro Loureiro, Luís Frasco and Vicente for lunch. We ate tapas in a Spanish restaurant, before the final drawing in the Manchester Cathedral. It was five o-clock in the afternoon, we had to come back: walking to the hotel, where we had left the bags then by train to the airport, and a plane back home.
I did the last drawing on the plane. I thought that Vicente deserved to be in the last drawing. For his passion and dedication to the drawing in sketchbooks, for being my true friend, for his success as an instructor in the symposium. He deserved all good things that happened to him these days. Congratulations Vincente!
I finished the drawing when we were landing, I wrote what I was listening, resigned to the circumstances. I opened the sketchbook again in the arrivals for one last photo with the group. I was still dreaming, but now tired, my eyes were less open than the previous days. My tired eyes were probably closed for a few minutes, not looking at the suitcase, which had disappeared, stolen, when I wanted to catch it. I loose my clothes, two books, a Lamy pen, the black goodies bag from the first day, and the original drawing from TIA, that I bought for 50 pounds at the silent auction. With me, in a heavy backpack, I had almost everything that interested me truly: my sketchbooks. And the two tiny Manchester United shirts...

In the University, I attended several Siza Vieira conferences Siza, by a couple of times I make some questions, but I never drew him. Another time I went to a launch of a formidable book, "Imaginar a evidência" when he signed the book still laughed at my nickname, and also I didn´t draw. At the end of the course, in the purpose of the Expo 98, I was in a full day seminar with few people, in which was very close to our future Pritzker. I didn´t drew again ...
Recently, I got stuned to the drawings from José Louro and Mário Linhares in Venice, they did not refuse such opportunity to draw someone that is one of the great live architects, and whom I am a great admirer.
On Saturday July 2nd, I went to Seixal to draw in Quinta da Fidalga, but I just focus on the recently opened Artas House of Manuel Cargaleiro, a simple and small building, but it was irresistible not draw.
Draw Alvaro Siza, so daring ...

I did a duel with Inês, the talented daughter of Claudia Mestre. It was after lunch, sitting on a blanket on a fluffy grass of Quinta da Fidalga in Seixal, to not to get sick of the very good architecture from Alvaro Siza, which I drew in the morning and also in the afternoon. The drawings are clear, I was thrashed, Inês drawing is muchthan mine.
Thank you Inês, I enjoyed so much knowing you, and to record this day forever in my sketchbook.

I did this drawing in the same evening as Iceland won to England, getting the sensation team at the tournament. I hope so that tomorrow Wales did not became more sensational that this terrific Iceland...
